Meet our Pastor

Calvary is currently being served by a Vacancy Pastor; that is, a pastor who is filling in part time until we have a new resident pastor. Our current Vacancy Pastor is Pastor Randall Styx, a retired WELS pastor who is also a member of our congregation.

Pastor Styx was born in 1947. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in Physical Geography and Mathematics, he first worked as a stereo-grammetric cartographer. He then was a teacher in the Illinois public schools and taught 5th Grade and Junior High Mathematics. While doing these, he attended seminary classes in the evenings until graduating in 1978.

Pastor Styx's first call was to a little church in Coos Bay, Oregon, where he married and all his four children were born. He and his congregation joined the WELS in 1984. His next call was to Snoqualmie, Washington, about 30 miles east of Seattle. His last call before retirement was to Valmy, Wisconsin, about 7 miles northeast of Sturgeon Bay in Door County.

Pastor Styx enjoys music, art, and woodworking. He has worked with WELS Kingdom Workers - Builders for Christ on three churches. He also taught sailing and boating safety classes with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for about ten years.
